We have been celebrating a lot around here. There are four birthdays in 4 months so cake is abundant!
We pretty much agree that chocolate is the best but, it’s always my husband who requests chocolate butter cream frosting for his birthday cake.
This recipe is perfect for cake and even cupcakes. If there is no reason to celebrate (why do you even need a reason to make cake in the first place!) this would be perfect sandwiches between to graham crackers!
Chocolate Butter Cream Frosting

Ingredients
1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
2 TBSP milk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup shortening
5-6 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Directions
1. In a medium microwave safe bowl, melt together chocolate chips and milk for 50-60 seconds stirring after every 10 seconds. Cool for 5 minutes.
2. In a large bowl cream together butter and shortening for 1 minute.
3. Mix in cooled melted chocolate and vanilla extract.
4. Add in powdered sugar one cup at time until it reaches the desired consistency.
5. Frost cake.
